I think Panko breadcrumbs is one of the best Japanese food products ever … it is so light and crispy … especially with this butterflied, Panko breaded, jumbo prawns/shrimps!
RECIPE
Ingredients:
6 jumbo tiger prawns (allow 1 prawn per person)
2 eggs, beaten
1 – 1½ cups plain Panko breadcrumbs
salt & freshly ground pepper, for seasoning
oil, for deep-frying
tartar sauce or seafood sauce
Method:
- Clean, devein and butterfly the jumbo tiger prawns
- Sprinkle some salt & freshly ground black pepper to season the prawns
- Heat up a wok/pan with enough oil for deep-frying (I used my electric deep-fryer)
- Dip the seasoned prawns into the beaten eggs then coat it with the Panko breadcrumbs
- Deep fry the coated prawns for 2 – 3 minutes
- Place them either on wire-rack or a kitchen paper-towel to drain any excess oil
- Serve up with either seafood sauce or tartar sauce
