Butterflied Jumbo Panko Prawns

Posted on

I think Panko breadcrumbs is one of the best Japanese food products ever  … it is so light and crispy … especially with this butterflied, Panko breaded, jumbo prawns/shrimps!

This is definitely one dish that almost everybody loves …. and it is so simple & quick to make … I served this as a starter at one of the dinner parties we hosted

6 jumbo tiger prawns (allow 1 prawn per person)

2 eggs, beaten

1 – 1½ cups plain Panko breadcrumbs

salt & freshly ground pepper, for seasoning

oil, for deep-frying

tartar sauce or seafood sauce

  • Clean, devein and butterfly the jumbo tiger prawns
  • Sprinkle some salt & freshly ground black pepper to season the prawns
  • Heat up a wok/pan with enough oil for deep-frying (I used my electric deep-fryer)
  • Dip the seasoned prawns into the beaten eggs then coat it with the Panko breadcrumbs
  • Deep fry the coated prawns for 2 – 3 minutes
  • Place them either on wire-rack or a kitchen paper-towel to drain any excess oil
  • Serve up with either seafood sauce or tartar sauce
