They look like chestnuts to me but smallish ones picked too early maybe.
Yes cheftolus they are …hubby plucked it from a tree in a park which was lined with rows & rows of these trees in Paris ..even along the main road … and we were told later on by a friend in Paris that if he was caught plucking off the trees he could have been ‘arrested’!!!! I left it on my kitchen counter on return home and eventually both nuts did ‘burst’ open on its own and revealed the chestnuts
